Springfield Wins First Home-Opener

April 13, 2005 By admin Leave a Comment

The Springfield Cardinals won their first game ever, topping the Tulsa Drillers 2-1 at Hammons Field. It was their home opener. Starting pitcher Randy Leek lasted seven innings and allowed just three hits and a walk. He also picked two runners off at first base.

Travis Hanson’s RBI triple in the fourth inning broke a scoreless tie and a two-out throwing error by Tulsa shortstop Nestor Perez in the eighth allowed Andy Schutzenhofer to score to give Springfield a 2-0 lead. They held on for the victory.
