The Springfield Cardinals, the St. Louis Cardinals’ new Class-AA affiliate, opened their franchise with a 6-5 loss to the Arkansas Travellers on Thursday. Perhaps more frustrating than the loss is that they had a chance to win their first game ever.

Springfield held a 5-3 advantage in the seventh inning after Tyler Minges hit a solo home run. But in the eighth, the Travellers scored three runs—two the result of sacrifice flies—to take the lead and hold on for the win.

The Cardinals play three more games in Arkansas, before coming home for their home opener on Tuesday against the Oklahoma Drillers.
