An article to be published today in the journal Science contends construction in the Missouri and Mississippi River bottoms ignores public policy recommendations made in the wake of the 1993 flood. The article is written by Southern Illinois-Carbdondale geologist Nicholas Pinter. He concludes St. Louis didn’t learn the flood’s lessons. Pinter notes more than $2-Billion worth of new construction has gone up in the St. Louis area that had been under water in 1993.
