Morris To Start Season On DL, Cards Win And Royals Lose

March 28, 2005 By admin Leave a Comment

The Cardinals announced yesterday that pitcher Matt Morris will start the season on the DL as he continues to recover from off-season shoulder surgery. He’s expected to make his first start of the season on April 19.

The Cardinals cut four players on Sunday, including fan favorite second baseman Bo Hart. He and three others were optioned to Class-AAA Memphis. That leaves one spot on the opening-day roster available.

St. Louis got the best of the Marlins on Sunday with a 7-3 win. The Cardinals scored six runs in the third inning to take a 6-0 lead. Albert Pujols and John Mabry drove in two runs apiece, while Jason Marquis worked six innings and allowed two runs off two hits.

The Royals were crushed 13-5 by the Diamondbacks thanks largely to control problems by Kansas City’s pitchers. The Royals walked 11 batters on Sunday and nine of them eventually found their way to home plate. The Royals rallied for four runs in the eighth, but it was too little, too late.
