Chadwick High School suits up just seven players on their girls basketball team. That seemed to be plenty on Friday afternoon as the Lady Cardinals cruised to a 51-32 win over New Franklin in the Class 1 girls state championship.
The Chadwick defense was tight as a drum early, holding the Lady Bulldogs to just 12 first half points and led 31-12 in the first half. In the first two quarters, the Lady Cardinals hit 50 percent of their shots and got the job done from the charity stripe, hitting 9-of-11 free throws.
In the second half, New Franklin was able to get their offense working a little better, but Chadwickâs win was never really in doubt on Friday. A balanced scoring attack made it hard for New Franklin to key on any one player. Senior Jessi Peirce had 13, junior Stacey Sisco had 11, senior Courtney Jones had nine and sophomore Misty Bettis had seven. Chadwick finished the season 27-4, grabbing their first state title. New Franklin 25-6.
