Talent Legislation Would Curb Growing Problem Of E-Waste

March 7, 2005 By admin Leave a Comment

An effort is underway on Capitol Hill in Washington to deal with the growing problem of harmful electronic waste. And, Senator Jim Talent is one of the leaders of this effort. Electronic waste, or e-waste, includes outdated personal or office electronics which contain hazardous toxins. Senator Talent and Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon co-sponsor legislation that would provide incentives to individuals and small businesses to recycle old computers, TVs, and other items. He says a federal solution is needed. Incentives include a $15 tax credit for any consumer who recycles an old computer or TV, and an $8 per unit tax credit for companies that recycle at least 5,000 display screens of computer system units per year.
