Rams Sign Three-Time Pro-Bowl LB Coakley, Chiefs Talk To Rolle, Trotter and Hartwell

March 2, 2005 By admin Leave a Comment

The Rams didn’t allow much time to pass before striking their first deal of the NFL free agent signing period. They inked linebacker Dexter Coakley, who will make a reported $14.5 million over the next five years. The contract includes a $3 million signing bonus.

The need at linebacker for the Rams is well defined. They won’t re-sign Tommey Polley and Pisa Tinoisamoa will be moved from linebacker to strong safety. Coakley is an eight year veteran, playing his entire career in Dallas. Coakley had a career low 91 tackles in 2004; it was the first time he failed to record 100 tackles in a single season. He is a three time Pro-Bowl selection (1999, 2001 and 2003).

The Chiefs visited with former Titans cornerback Samari Rolle and linebackers Jeremiah Trotter of the Eagles and Ed Hartwell of the Ravens. Their visits will wrap up today.
