The Southwest Missouri State men’s basketball team missed their first 18 shots on Wednesday night and dug a hole they never got out of. The Bears lost at Wichita St. 72-61. SMS shot 17.9 percent in the first half and trailed 37-17 at halftime. The deficit was too large to overcome in the second half, despite outscoring the Shockers 44-35 the rest of the way. Blake Ahearn had 16 points to lead SMS in scoring. The loss extended SMS’ losing streak to three games, as Wichita St. snapped a three-game skid. The Bears are 14-11 overall and 8-8 in the Missouri Valley Conference, while WSU improved to 19-6 and 11-4.
