Mental Health Department Sued Over Spending

February 23, 2005 By admin Leave a Comment

The State Mental Health Department has been sued by Jackson County’s Public Administrator, who questions whether the state is spending enough on mental health. Governor Matt Blunt has proposed $56-Million in cuts. A judge already has ordered the state to extend hospital commitments for some wards of the court who’ve been in mental facilities, but whose commitment times had run out, or to provide placement plans for them. The state has extended the commitment times for people whose situations have led to the suit.
