State lawmakers continue to look into Missouri’s Medicaid system in light of budget cuts proposed by Governor Matt Blunt. And, the latest step in the learning process involves information on Medicaid eligibility. Governor Blunt’s proposals for Medicaid include scaling back eligibility. Denise Cross, Director of the Family Support Division at the Department of Social Services, tells a House committee the Department must work hard to determine whether those applying for benefits are entitled to them. Cross says the Department is considering using outside contractors to help determine whether an applicant’s assets or resources affect eligibility. Further hearings on the Medicaid proposal will be held over the coming weeks.
