Returning Vets Ask Lawmakers For Help

February 14, 2005 By admin Leave a Comment

Some of Missouri’s returning veterans are finding their state unable to help them regain their pre-war lives. One is Jefferson City contractor Shane VanSteenberg, who has shut down his business twice because he’s been called up three times. He’s a Marine Sergeant. He says the State has called up more than 12,000 National Guard members and reservists – callups that have affected more than 54,000 family members. He says the State also has no programs to help business people who want to keep their businesses going while theyh’re gone or resume them when they return. He’s asked the Senate Appropriations Committe to improve veterans’ services. The committee has made no commitments.
