Federal Court Upholds Law Restricting Sexy Billboard Advertising

February 11, 2005 By admin Leave a Comment

The Federal District Court in Kansas City has upheld a Missouri law prohibiting adult businesses from advertising within one mile of any state highway. Opponents had argued the law violated free speech rights of pornographers and operators of sexually oriented businesses. The challenge was launched by a Kansas City strip club and a company that operates adult bookstores along Interstate 70. Senator Matt Bartle of Lee’s Summit, who sponsored the bill last year in the General Assembly, says the ruling could be appealed to the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals in Kansas City. He believes the law will withstand any challenge.
