SMS signed a class of 34 players on national letter of intent signing day. Eleven of the class are already enrolled at SMS this spring and the other 23 will join the squad at the start of the Bears’ preseason camp in August. There are 21 freshmen and 13 transfers. Nine of the players are junior college transfers and four are transferring from Division I programs. Transfers already in school at SMS and set to join the squad for spring practice when it starts in March are TB Lee Baker from Middle Tennessee State, DB Jamar Barnes from Long Beach City College, QB Scott Carroll from Purdue, TE Brock Gruenberg from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, TE Payne Hall from Arkansas, DB Greg Lovely of Brigham Young and TB Ramel McIntosh of Glendale Community College. 15 of the 34 players played high school football in Missouri. The overall group of 34 includes four quarterbacks, four tailbacks, three tight ends, one wide receiver, seven offensive linemen, five defensive linemen, three linebackers and seven defensive backs.
