Senate Committee Takes On Stem Cell / Cloning Debate

An issue so basic that it is enormously complicated has been put before a State Senate Committee. The issue is life – more particularly a ban on what is commonly called “cloning.” The committee is considering whether to ban embryonic stem cell research, even though its proponents say it could be the key to cures of the most debilitating diseases and conditions. A major issue for lawmakers is whether an unfertilized egg with transplanted chromosomes growing in a petri dish is life. The experts who’ve met with the committee so far are sharply divided.
