Super Bowl Set With Lots Of Show-Me Ties In Philly

January 24, 2005 By admin Leave a Comment

The Super Bowl is set. The Eagles will square off against the Patriots in Super Bowl XXXIX in Jacksonville on February 6. In Philadelphia, the Eagles topped the Falcons 27-10 in the NFC Championship game, while the Patriots roughed up the Steelers in Pittsburgh 41-27. There probably aren’t many Eagles or Patriots fans in Missouri, but if those in a Show-Me State like rooting for those who have connections to the state, they may Eagles fans for the next two weeks. Philadelphia head coach Andy Reid was the offensive line coach at MU from 1989-1991. Assistant head coach Marty Mornhinweg was a Mizzou assistant from 1991-1993 and before that he spent two years as an assistant at Southeast Missouri State. Defensive coordinator Jim Johnson was a three-time letter winner at Mizzou and was their quarterback in 1962. Johnson was also the head coach at Missouri Southern in 1967 and 1968. Defensive tackle Hollis Thomas helped Sumner High school in St. Louis to two Class 4A state football titles in the early in 1989 and 1990.
