St. Joseph-Born Actress Dead At 88

January 18, 2005 By admin Leave a Comment

St. Joseph native Ruth Warrick is dead at the age of 88. Warrick made her Hollywood debut in a big way as the wife of Citizen Kane. Orson Welles, who co-wrote, directed and starred in the film, chose Warrick because he said there were no ladies in Hollywood who could play the part. Warrick was best known, though, as Phoebe Tyler Wallingford, a busybody housekeeper on the soap opera “All My Children.” She was honored last May with a Daytime Emmy Award for lifetime achievement. ABC-TV says Warrick died Saturday at her New York home of complications from pneumonia.
