Fallen Police Officers Remembered

January 17, 2005 By admin Leave a Comment

A Cole County Sheriff has been laid to rest. George Brooks apparently took his own life earlier this week. Yesterday, Brooks was buried in a ceremony in Jefferson City. The County Commission has named former Department of Corrections Director Gary Kempker as interim Sheriff. Meanwhile, hundreds of fellow police officers, friends, and family turned out for the funeral of Bridgeton police officer Scott Armstrong. The 31-year-old Armstrong was killed early Wednesday while on patrol when a wrong-way driver crashed head-on into his police vehicle. The other driver, off-duty University City police officer Stephen Bastean also was killed. He’s being buried today.
