Democrats have chosen a new leader as they cope with reduced numbers in the Missouri House. Democrats used to control the House chamber. Two years ago, Republicans gained 90 of the 163 seats and took control for the first time in 50 years. This election, Republicans added seven seats and now hold a 97-66 majority in the House this session. Democrats chose Columbia Representative Jeff Harris as their new leader. He vows to make sure Democrats are heard, despite the small numbers. Former Minority Leader Rick Johnson of High Ridge was known for his high-profile clashes with Republican leaders. Harris declines to compare himself with Johnson. Harris denies Democrats are down about the November elections. He insists they’re inspired to work for the people.
