The SMS Bears stormed back to beat Evansville 78-75 yesterday in Springfield, recording their first Missouri Valley Conference win of the season. The Bears trailed 41-32 at half, and fell behind by as many as 10 points in the second half. But an 8-0 run midway through the half got the Bears back in the game. Tamarr Maclin’s bucket with 49 seconds left put SMS ahead for good. Tyler Chaney and Deven Mitchell each scored 15 points to lead SMS. Maclin added 10 points and nine rebounds. The Bears are now 7-3 overall, 1-1 in MVC play. SMS hits the road Wednesday night for a showdown with Bradley.
