Communism has been a part of Missouri life and history for more than a century. Not the great “red menace” from Russia or China, or elsewhere behind the iron curtain-this was the communism of the utopian society. The movement was quite popular in the 19th century and Missouri was as much involved as any state in the Union. In fact, it was more involved than most.
