Fire Marshall Urges Common Sense To Avoid Christmas Tragedies

December 23, 2004 By admin Leave a Comment

It might well be the most wonderful time of the year, but it could turn dangerous if a few common sense steps aren’t taken. Christmas and cold. State Fire Marshall Bill Farr says common sense can keep this time of year festive, instead of tragic. Farr warns that alternative means of heating a house can cause serious fires. Most artificial Christmas trees now have a flame retardant. Live trees bring something special to a home. Farr reminds residents to water them often and keep a close eye on their needles. If you plan on leaving for an extended time, Farr reminds you to unplug the Christmas tree lights or at least put them on a timer. And make sure to run through your safety checks before leaving the house behind.
