December 17, 2004 By admin Leave a Comment

A coaching legend has walked away. Bud Lathrop resigned as head basketball coach for Raytown South High School Thursday after a dispute with the school’s principal. Kevin Overfelt informed Lathrop that he was being suspended for three weeks for using profanity during a practice. Lathrop responded by retiring immediately. In 2002 Lathrop agreed to a zero-tolerance policy after he was suspended for paddling a player during a free-throw shooting drill. Lathrop has 914 wins, 4 state titles and 33 conference championships. This year’s squad is 3-3 assistant J.R. Hurssman will take over.
