Less than six months after becoming the United States Ambassador to the United Nations, former U.S. Senator John Danforth of Missouri is calling it quits. In announcing his decision to step down, Danforth says he wants to spend more time with his wife who has been recovering from a fall last year that left her ankle badly broken. Danforth wants to leave by January 20th. President Bush selected Danforth in June to lead U.S. efforts to persuade the U.N. to expand its presence in Iraq and play a major role in the country’s January 30th elections.
