Governor Bob Holden and Governor-elect Matt Blunt address college and university officials gathered in Columbia for the Governor’s Conference on Higher Education. Both talk up the importance of increasing access to higher education. In his final speech to the Conference, Holden took the opportunity to criticize the Republican-controlled Legislature for not going along with his plans to raise traxes to help pay for some educational priorities. Blunt says affordability is the key issue when it comes to higher education, and it’s important to make sure tax dollars are spent wisely. Blunt says cutting some of the waste that exists in government will help keep tuition costs down and ensure more Missourians can attend college.
