Former Jackson County Executive Bill Waris has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of lying and obstructing justice. Waris headed Jackson County’s government from 1982 to 1990. The indictment grows out of an investigation of professional services contracts issued by the county. Waris is paid $56,000 as a lobbyist for the county.
