For the first time in team history, a pair of rookies have won Royals player and pitcher of the year honors. The Kansas City Chapter of the Baseball Writers Association voted outfielder David DeJesus as the Royals player of the year. DeJesus, who took over for Carlos Beltran in center field, hit .287 and finished the year with his second 15-game hitting streak of the season. Zack Greinke won the pitcher of the year award.
