Is it too late to make a difference? Maybe, maybe not, but one thing is for sure: The Chiefs put on one heck of a show Sunday afternoon at Arrowhead Stadium. Running backs Priest Holmes and Derrick Blaylock rushed for four touchdowns apiece as the Chiefs ripped apart the NFL’s leader in rush defense 56-10. Before yesterday’s game, the Falcons allowed just 74.5 yards per contest—Kansas City finished with 271 rushing yards on Sunday. Holmes finished with 139 yards on the ground, while Blaylock added 90. Believe it or not, the Falcons actually had the lead at one point, when Jay Feely booted a 19-yard field goal in the first quarter. The Chiefs responded by rolling off 35 unanswered points in the first half. Trent Green’s performance was overshadowed by his running backs, but his day was certainly nothing to sneeze at. Green completed 20-of-27 passes for 269 yards. As good as the offense was, the defense was equally impressive for Kansas City. The Chiefs allowed just 222 total yards and didn’t allow a single touchdown. The Falcons’ only trip to the end zone came as a result of Allen Rossum’s 71-yard punt return. The victory improved Kansas City’s record to 2-4.
