Senate Leader Peter Kinder has unveiled a 12-point plan his Joint Interim Committee on Veterans Affairs has put together to keep veterans programs afloat. Kinder says one program – the Veterans Commission Capital Improvement Trust Fund – is in danger of running out of money next year if lawmakers don’t act quickly. He says says it won’t take that much money to keep the fund solvent. Kinder also wants a income tax refund checkoff to raise funds needed for military families. He blames the late Governor Mel Carnahan for putting lawmakers in the position to either funds schools or fund veterans programs.
