Missouri voters will have the opportunity, on November 2nd, to amend the State Constitution to stop the diversion of funds earmarked for transportation. Amendment 3 would put an end to the practice of taking revenues collected through transportation taxes, and spending the money for anything other than transportation projects, like roads. Dan Mehan, Treasurer for the Committee to Improve Missouri’s Roads, says diverting funds costs the state credibility. But Pat Martin, with the NO on Amendment 3 committee, says targeting these revenues would be wrong. Martin claims education and social services would be hurt by approval of this amendment. Mehan says increased revenues will more than compensate for the $160-Million being returned to transportation.
