An auction is being held Tuesday in Jefferson City to get rid of some unclaimed property that’s been collected over the years. Items from thousands of “abandoned” safe deposit boxes have been held by the State Treasurer’s Office for the rightful owners or their heirs. Unclaimed Property Project Manager Gloria Jett says with space at a premium, the Treasurer’s Office is auctioning off some of the items that have been held for a long time because says there’s only so much room in the warehouse. All money from items sold will be held in perpetuity, by the State, until the rightful owners or their heirs claim ownership.
