Officials at the old state prison in Jefferson City spent the day moving about 1,350 inmates form the old facility dating back to 1836 to a new prison on the outskirts of town. While the operation reportedly went smoothly for the most part, at least one prisoner had to be taken to the hospital after guards used force on him. 27-year-old Michael Hardin’s injuries were not serious, and he is now back at the new state prison. Corrections Department Spokesman John Fougere says the Corrections Department is prepared for just this kind of situation. No details on what caused the use of force have been released. The entire transfer is expected to wrap up earlier than first believed.
