Jeff Suppan failed to get out of the fourth inning as the Cardinals lost 7-5 to the Astros at Busch Stadium Tuesday. Suppan put two men on base in the fourth and had two outs when first baseman Albert Pujols made a fielding error to load the bases. That miscue cost the Cardinals dearly. Suppan walked Jeff Bagwell, then served up a three-run double to Lance Berkman and Jeff Kent scored Berkman with a double of his own. That was it for Suppan, who dropped to 15-7 on the season. The five-run rally gave Houston a 7-1 lead. Roger Clemens held the Cardinals in check through seven innings to earn his 17th win. He allowed one run off five hits, two walks and five strikeouts. St. Louis got four runs in the ninth inning, but couldn’t get over the hump. The Cubs beat the Pirates 3-2, so the Cardinals’ magic number is still five… Tickets for the Cardinals National League Divisional Series will go on sale on September 22 at 8AM.
