The Royals certainly had their chances to win their three-game series with the Devil Rays, but couldn’t capitalize on those chances in a 7-2 loss at Kauffman Stadium Sunday. The Royals had 10 base hits, but left 10 runners on base. Denny Bautista allowed six of the seven runs in 5 2/3 innings of work and dropped to 0-2 on the season. Six different Devil Rays drove in runs off the Royals on Sunday to take two-of-three from Kansas City. The Royals’ best chance to break the game open came in the seventh inning when Calvin Pickering led off with a single and Dee Brown followed up with a walk, but Alberto Castillo, Ruben Gotay and David DeJesus went down in order to end the inning. Castillo’s sacrifice fly and DeJesus’ RBI single in the ninth accounted for Kansas City’s only runs of the game. Jorge Sosa got the win for Tampa Bay in seven innings of work.
