Red Cross chapters across the state will be working to increase their preparedness for disaster as well as urge Missourians to become prepared during National Preparedness Month even as they respond to the natural disaster in Florida. Louis Maull, Chairman of the American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter, says his chapter is working to improve overall preparations even after sending people to help in the aftermath of hurricanes which have hit the East Coast. Maull says the St. Louis Area Chapter wants to improve its readiness, so that it can respond to a three-day diaster, affecting 500 families without having to call on the national office for assistance. At present, the St. Louis chapter can handle a disaster affecting a small number of families for a full day before asking for help from the national office.
