Law enforcement and the Missouri Department of Transportation team up for the next couple of weeks to help get drunk drivers off the road. Missouri is taking part in a national program called “You Drink and Drive, You Lose”.Lieutenant Tim Hull with the State Highway Patrol says that is a function of the patrol everyday, but this program will provide additional funding by combining the efforts of law enforcement with MODOT to obtain grants to pay officer overtime. Hull says the program is timed to coincide with all the drivers heading back-to-school as well as those trying to take advantage of one of the last weekends of summer not to mention the extended Labor Day holiday weekend. He says education efforts like this do pay off, as demonstrated with the higher seat belt use rates after the “Click-It or Ticket” program began.
