The most sought-after basketball recruit in the state of Missouri is heading elsewhere to play college ball. Tyler Hansbrough of Poplar Bluff High School announced at a press conference yesterday that he would attend North Carolina University next year. Hansbrough, who is 6-9, said his decision to become a Tar Heel has a lot to do with head coach Roy Williams. “I think getting to know coach Williams is a great experience for me. I’m ready to play for coach. I’ve got to know him over the while and it’s just based on my relationship with him and his track record with all the big been he’s had.” Hansbrough was also considering Missouri, Kentucky and Kansas. He averaged 27 points and 12 rebounds per game as a junior and led Poplar Bluff to the Class 5 state championship in 2004.
