Suspicious activity at the Lake of the Ozarks has prompted local and state officials to investigate; and to ask marina operators to report anything that seems unusual. A couple of incidents have been reported, only one has been confirmed by the State Homeland Security Office. Men of apparent Middle Eastern descent made inquires at a marina near Bagnell Dam about how much fuel a particular boat held, how far the marina was from the dam and whether the boat could make it to the dam. That occurred in late July. Another incident has yet to be verified. A boater on the lake has claimed to have seen another boat floating near Bagnell during a recent evening. The boater says it sped off when he shined a light on it and moved toward it.Missouri Homeland Security Director Tim Daniel says despite the incidents, no terror alert has been issued in the Lake of the Ozarks area. Daniel does say his office is looking into some recent calls they’ve received. Daniel says there is “no basis for alarm, no evidence of on-going terrorist activity in Missouri.” The state Water Patrol is nottaking any extra security measures but a spokesman says officers are talking to marina owners and reminding them to report any suspicious activity.
