Former University of Missouri running back Ernest Blackwell is dead after a run-in with police Wednesday night. For reasons still unknown, Blackwell shot his nine-year old stepdaughter in the chest and assaulted a 14-year old neighbor and her mother outside of his home in St. Louis. Police were called to the scene and subdued him but not without struggle. At one point, Blackwell attacked one officer and was attempted to grab his gun. After being shot with a Taser gun twice and administered two doses of a sedative, Blackwell was taken into custody and transported to a hospital in an ambulance, but died on the way. His stepdaughter and the 14-year old girl were both still in the hospital. The 14-year old’s mother was treated and released. Blackwell was played for Mizzou from 1994-1997 and was a part of the MU’s 1997 Holiday Bowl team, which lost to Colorado St. Blackwell rushed for 580 yards and seven touchdowns his senior year. He was 29 years old.
