One of Missouri’s prized football recruits from last year isn’t practicing. Running back Tony Temple has been pulled from practice while he awaits word from the NCAA Initial Eligibility Clearinghouse, which sets academic standards for freshmen entering college. Head coach Gary Pinkel was tight-lipped about the nature of the problem yesterday, saying, “I’m very protective of my players and that’s his business.” Pinkel did say that they planned to appeal the decision and hoped that Temple would be back on the field soon. Injuries watered-down Temple’s numbers at Rockhurst High School last year, but during his junior season, he rushed for 2,035 yards and 35 touchdowns to lead the Hawklets to the Class 6 State Championship.
