A study conducted by the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater ranks Kansas City 12th and St. Louis 13th on its Literate Cities list. Minneapolis tops the list of 79 cities in the United States, which are ranked based on libraries, book stores, newspaper circulation and other criteria. St. Louis actually moved up from a year ago due to an increased number of free Internet connections at the city’s libraries, an increase in the number of book stores and a decrease in population which gave a boost to its per capita measures.
