The fate of a downtown arena in Kansas City rests in the hands of the city’s voters today. Question One will ask Kansas Citians to approve a user fee on rental cars and hotel rooms in the area, which will be used to help pay for the arena. If passed, Anschutz Entertainment Group, which is responsible for the Staples Center in Los Angeles, and the National Association of Basketball Coaches will put up a total of $60-Million to help build the arena. Proponents of the arena hope it will attract an NBA or NHL franchise, if not both.
