The Royals lost their fifth straight game last night, falling 6-2 to the Devil Rays in Tampa Tuesday. Kansas City let a golden opportunity slip through their fingers in the first inning when they loaded the bases with one out, but failed to score. David DeJesus led off with a double. After Tony Graffanino struck out, Mike Sweeney and Matt Stairs walked to load the bases. The inning came to a quick end when Ken Harvey flied out to Rocco Baldelli, who then threw DeJesus out at the plate. Joe Randa homered in the second inning to get the Royals on the board to tie the game 1-1, but the led didn’t last long. In the bottom of the third, Baldelli drove in a run with a double and later scored after stealing third and advancing home on John Buck’s errant attempt to throw him out. Devil Rays’ catcher Toby Hall gave Tampa a 5-1 lead with a two-run homer off Darrell May in the fourth inning. May lasted five innings and allowed five runs off seven hits to drop to 7-11 on the season.
