Cardinals Avoid Sweep, Shutout Giants

July 26, 2004 By admin Leave a Comment

For the first time since late April, the Cardinals lost a series at home. San Francisco took two of three from the Redbirds over the weekend. St. Louis salvaged the series finale with a 6-0 win over the Giants. Coming off his worst outing of the season, Cards starter Matt Morris threw a seven-hit shutout, his first shutout of the season. Five different Cardinals drove in at least one run. John Mabry took advantage of a rare start at first base. Mabry had three hits, including his sixth home run of the season. The Cardinal defense was sharp as well, turning four double plays. The Cardinals extended their lead over Chicago to 10 games in the N.L. Central.
