Seat Belt Use Up In Missouri

July 24, 2004 By admin Leave a Comment

More and more Missourians are buckling up. The State Transportation Department reports about 76-percent of Missourians are using their seat belts. That figure represents a 3-percent increase over MoDOT data released last year. But it’s still below the national average for seat belt use, which stands at 79-percent. Under Missouri law, drivers and riders will not be ticketed solely for failure to wear seat belts. It’s a secondary offense and tickets will only be issued if a car is pulled over for another infraction and it’s discovered the occupants of the vehicle are not buckled-up.
