Missouri Economic Development Chief Pleased With Big Improvements In Economy

July 21, 2004 By admin Leave a Comment

The State Department of Economic Development is basking in some news that indicates Missouri is making great economic strides. Job figures for the year, to date, indicate Missouri has added 59,600 jobs – ranking this state second in the nation in job growth behind Oregon. As for June’s numbers, Missouri led the nation in job growth with 27,600 positions added. Economic Development Director Kelvin Simmons says this growth was not limited to low-paying jobs. During this period of growth, the state’s unemployment rate rose slightly. Simmons attributes that to good economic conditions encouraging more unemployed people to start looking for work. Simmons says Missouri is now enjoying strong economic momentum.
