A group called Coalition Against Arena Taxes hopes to raise $500,000 to urge people in Kansas City to vote against a measure that would add fees to rental car and hotel bills. Those funds would be used to partially pay for a downtown arena in Kansas City. If passed, Question 1 would add a fee of up to $4 per day on rental cars. Proponents of the measure say it will generate more than $10-million to help finance the arena which is expected to cost between $225-250-million. Anschutz Entertainment Group, which will manage the arena, has agreed to pay $50-million if the measure passes and the National Association of Basketball Coaches will pitch in another $10-million. NABC will headquarter its offices there and a college basketball hall of fame will be built there as well.
