Matt Stairs went from hero to goat in less than an inning but thanks to Dee Brown, Stairs won’t have to run and hide. The Royals 4-3 10th inning win over the Twins could have stayed within the cozy confines of a regular nine-inning game, but Stairs lost Jose Offerman’s fly ball in the Kauffman Stadium lights with one out in the ninth. Offerman raced to a triple and drove in a run. Later in the inning, Shannon Stewart drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 3-3. The gaffe came moments after Stairs gave the Royals a 3-1 lead with a two-run single in the bottom of the eighth. Luckily for Stairs, Brown sent the team home happy with a bases-leaded single in the 10th to give the Royals the win. Dennys Reyes pitched an inning of relief to get the win and improve to 3-4. The Royals took three-of- four from the Twins, knocking them out of first place in the American League Central. Kansas City has won five of their last seven.
