Similar sounding names can cause problems, especially when one of the groups works for the betterment of Missouri communities and the other is a political organization. There’s ACT Missouri – a private, non-profit corporation that works with some 400,000 local partners in 200 cities and towns to create healthy, drug-free communities. Then there’s the Missouri branch of America Coming Together, which calls itself ACT Missouri. Unlike the community ACT Missouri, which is apolitical, the political ACT Missouri has been criticized for hiring convicted felons to go door to door to collect information and encourage people to vote for Democrat Presidential Candidate John Kerry. The community ACT Missouri wants it known it has no connection to the political oganization and is asking the Democratic mobilizing group to stop using the name ACT Missouri.
