Royals Swept By Padres

July 5, 2004 By admin Leave a Comment

Nothing the Royals did at the plate could get David Wells off the mound. In fact the only thing that got the Padres starter out of the game was a self-inflicted injury. In the sixth inning, Wells fouled a pitch off his right leg and had to leave with a lead. The Padres scored twice in the frame to inflate their lead to 4-0 and eventually won 7-1. The Royals could only muster six hits Sunday and lost their fifth straight—they’ve dropped 10 of their last 11. Ken Harvey’s ninth-inning home run was Kansas City’s only tally of the game. Harvey and Tony Graffanino were the only two players in the Royals’ lineup who are hitting higher than .242. Harvey is the only one hitting over .300. Mike Wells got the loss and dropped to 1-1.
