State Auditor Claire McCaskill has released an audit critical of the amount of money spent by various state agencies on promotional items and gifts. McCaskill says these items are, in many cases silly and extravagent and there’s too much money spent on them. The audit sample determined a dozen agencies unnecessarily spent up to $1.2-Million for these gifts during the two fiscal years that ended June 30th of last year. One agency spent more than $11,000 for portfolios which included calculators, mugs, post-it note pads, and mouse pads. This promotion was said to be used for recruitment purposes.
